The Semmering Base Tunnel is one of the most important infrastructure projects in the heart of Europe and forms a central part of the new southern line, which ensures a fast and safe connection between Lower Austria and Styria. As part of this major project, the BIM planning of the high-voltage systems, the control and safety technology and the mechanical systems was carried out in collaboration with Rhomberg Sersa Bahntechnik’s Digital Services.
In cooperation with pde and under the Porr Rhomberg Sersa Bahntechnik consortium, a route of around 27 km of tunnels with 56 cross-passages and 3 technical buildings is being modeled and planned in detail in BIM. This comprehensive planning ensures that all infrastructural requirements are implemented efficiently.
The use of BIM enables early detection and elimination of collisions (repetition).
The reality capture team from Rhomberg Sersa Bahntechnik’s Digital Services department scans the cross-passages. The captured data flows directly into the BIM models and forms the basis for the as-built models, which are handed over to ÖBB for the facility management phase at the end of the project.
BIM-based overall coordination ensures that all project participants work together effectively and that planning is carried out at the highest level. This leads to harmonized execution and a significant reduction in sources of error.
The integration of 4D planning brings the temporal dimension into the BIM models, which enables precise control of the construction processes. GIS data is also integrated to create a seamless link between spatial information and construction planning.
The as-built models created at the end of the project are handed over to ÖBB and serve as the basis for facility management. This ensures long-term, efficient management and maintenance of the tunnel.
